Concerning Colour

• From 10 am to 5 pm, at The European Social Sciences and Humanities Research Institute – Lille Nord de France (MESHS), 2 rue des Canonniers, 59000 Lille.
• From 6 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Palais Rihour, 42 place Rihour, 59800 Lille.

We have explored colour through scientific representation, viewing it as a tool for the transmission of complex information, from the structural and linguistic objectivity of an observed object to the subjectivity of perception: What relationship does colour have with reality and its representation of it? What objectivity can it bring to scientific imagery? How can one establish a comprehensible code for data visualisation? What is its contribution to Atlases, those sophisticated pieces of work that seek to establish a comprehensive collection of knowledge? What pleasure and what experimental manipulations does it stimulate in designers and filmmakers? Finally, going beyond just its name, how can one understand subjective perceptions and its cultural uses?
